| September 9-11, 2011 The Wapping Fair is closed Thursday and will open on Friday, September 9. Students in grades 3-8 are encouraged to participate in our Spelling Bee Competition. For more information, please visit www.swspellingbee.org. The 119th Wapping Fair, taking place at Evergreen Walk is proud to bring you even more excitement
This year's fair is getting back to the roots of agricultural fairs! Weekend activities will offer demonstrations of the way things used to be done. Stop by on Saturday to watch candles being made from scratch, a wood carver fashion items without the use of power tools and a Windsor chair maker perform his craft right before your eyes. Sunday brings an organic landscaper to explain new ways of framing and landscaping. Providing the rides again at Wapping Fair is Tufano Amusements, who will continue making our midway a true destination for fun for children of all ages as they will be bringing some of the best rides available including bumper cars, the pirate ship, the avalanche and more! Stop by Thursday night and Sunday from 2 -6 p.m. for our unlimited Ride Bracelets!! Fairgoers can see a variety of animals during the fair, including the three-day-old baby chicks, along with more than 700 baking and arts and crafts exhibits on display for all to see. Exhibitors that win certain quilting and baking categories are eligible to compete at the Connecticut Fair Association meeting. Our bakers are welcome to enter the King Arthur Flour contests and win some great prizes!! Individuals of all ages are welcome to exhibit their items. All children that enter are guaranteed a ribbon! Look for our exhibitors guide on the agricultural section. Does the Wapping Fair have plenty of food? Boy, do we!! The fair has a variety of different foods for all to enjoy, including everyone's favorite hot dogs and hamburgers, pizza, baked potatoes, sausage and peppers grinders, Taiwanese food, pulled pork, corn on the cob, French fries, smoothies, fried dough, and more! Since 2001, the South Windsor Jaycees have been the driving force behind the Wapping Fair. The Jaycees use the money raised by the fair each year to fund many community projects. We hope you will take a moment to learn more about the South Windsor Jaycees. Each year more than 20,000 people started or renewed a tradition by visiting the Wapping Fair...why not do the same with your family and friends this year? We hope you enjoy your visit to the Wapping Fair! |
